Preeminent Nigerian novelist, Labo Yari, is dead. He was a pioneer of English novelist from Northern Nigeria.

He died on Saturday at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina aged 81.

In 1981 Yari was among the handful of Nigerian writers that teamed up with Chinua Achebe in midwifing the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).

The soft-spoken radical prince from Katsina had authored six books, mostly novels. The most famed were his 1978 magnum opus, Climate of Corruption, and his tell-all biography of the Emir of Katsina, Mahamman Dikko.

May Allah repose his soul. Amin!
