From among the portents of the Hour

Narrated Anas (RA): Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “From among the portents of the Hour are (the following):
- Religious knowledge will be taken away (by the death of Religious learned men).
- (Religious) ignorance will prevail.
- Drinking of Alcoholic drinks (will be very common).
- There will be prevalence of open illegal sexual intercourse.
(Sahih al-Bukhari 80, Book 3, Hadith 22)
The death of our scholars and pious teachers is a tragedy we are already seeing. With social media, the learned are ridiculed, taunted and questioned especially in today’s online world where many speak first and think later. Just a few years ago, people would flock to listen to the scholars and strive for knowledge.
Now their voices are easily drowned out on platforms that encourage speech before thought and impulse reactions. The death of our teachers leads to the death of knowledge in an era where many claim to not have time to study the Deen. Alcohol is prevalent, even in some Muslim countries and illicit relations are no longer frowned upon in societies but have become the norm through consumed media, literature and in educational environments. It’s never too late, open the Qur’an and read.
Turn to Allah in the day and in the still of the night. Save your soul and elevate your spirit, find redemption through Allah and Islam. Follow the example of the Prophet (SAW) and experience a spiritual high like nothing else. The signs are convening, may Allah have mercy on all of us.
