Dangers Of Skipping Jumma’at Prayer, Every Muslim Should Have In Mind

There is a specific direction from the Quran to us regarding the Jumma’at prayer.

At the time of the Prophet (pbuh), Makkah was primarily a trade center with many merchants. Business and transactions were commonplace.

Surah Al-Jumu’ah says: But when they saw a transaction or a diversion, [O Muhammad], they rushed to it and left you standing. Say, “what is with Allah is better than diversion and than a transaction, and Allah is the best of providers.”

The passage narrated human nature. Humans were easily distracted by business and their careers. When they saw an opportunity to make money, their attentions are diverted. And not much has changed with humans.

So naturally, people choose their careers or education before Allah. The gain is immediate whereas nurturing your relationship with Allah could be long-term.

The benefit of attending Jummah is in this quote. Allah tells us once we hear the adhan we must come to prayer and that… “when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.” (62:10)

Hadith On Missing Three Consecutive Jummah

It was narrated from Abu Al-Ja’d Ad-Damri – who was a companion of the Prophet (SAW) – that the Prophet (SAW) said: “whoever missed three Jumu’ah out of negligence, Allah (SWT) will place a seal over his heart.”

It is an obligation for all male Muslims who are sane to attend Friday prayers. It is not mandatory for women but they are allowed to go to the masjid. Jummah is not obligatory to travelers.

It is considered a sin to skip Jummah salat for those who are within obligation. There are great blessings of Jummah and no benefit to those who intentionally skip it.

Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger talked about Friday saying, “There is an hour (opportune time) on Friday and if a Muslim gets it while praying and asks something from Allah, then Allah will meet his demand.”

If you skip Jummah prayer, you stand a chance to lose all the blessings from Allah.
